Congratulations to Ray Johnston for winning Futurewise Award

Greenfire Campus, a mixed-use complex in Ballard designed by Johnston Architectcts, received a smart growth award from Futurewise.  The project has several energy-saving measures such as natural ventilation, ground-source heat pumps, photovoltaics, solar hot water systems, radiant heat, green roofs with edible plants, rainwater harvesting and natural shading.  Each tenant will get a P-Patch, and there will be raspberry bushes and peas growing near the front entrance.

In the News

Studio216 is thrilled to be featured on the front page of the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce today. Our team worked closely with Skanska and Lisa Pickard to achieve this image.

From the Daily Journal of Commerce - Skanska USA Commercial Development is breaking ground this morning on its first project in Seattle: Stone34, which will house the new headquarters for Brooks Sports.

The 129,000-square-foot building slated for 3400 Stone Way will cost $51 million and be self-financed by Skanska. When finished in spring 2014, it will have 19,000 square feet of ground-level retail topped by four levels of office.

Brooks will occupy all of the building’s 106,000 square feet of office space. Brooks also will operate its first retail concept store in 9,000 square feet on the ground level, leaving about 10,000 square feet of retail available adjacent to the Burke-Gilman Trail.

Stone34 is pre-certified LEED platinum and part of the city’s Living Building Pilot Program. It will use 75 percent less energy and water than typical buildings through hydronic heating and cooling systems, stormwater capture and reuse, and a layout that increases day light and reduces summer heat loads.

Tenants will be encouraged to reduce their energy impacts through real-time monitoring and displays of their energy use.

A 216-stall underground garage will have plug-in stations for electric cars. There will be more than 8,500 square feet of outdoor pedestrian area above that includes edible landscaping.

Skanska USA Building is the general contractor. The design team is LMN, architect; Swift & Co., landscape architect; WSP Flack + Kurtz, MEP engineer; KPFF Consulting Engineers, civil engineer; and DCI Engineers, structural engineer. Anne Marie Koehler at CBRE is handling retail leasing.

Studio216 Holiday Party

We have many reasons to celebrate 2012! From personal accomplishments (like Ben Schwartz who climbed to the summit of Mt. St. Helens) to new jobs and new babies, the Studio216 is thankful for much that has happened.

We started the night at Marjorie, eating a medley of delicious food and handcrafted cocktails. We then moved over to the Rockbox, singing to our hearts content.

We can’t wait for all the exciting projects and challenging goals 2013 will bring!

Sellen Sustainability launches ‘Green Building Safety Program Video’

Sellen Sustainability has just launched the nation’s first green building safety program to proactively address potential incidents associated with new green building systems before accidents occur.  Leveraging years of green building knowledge and experience from its parent company, Sellen Construction, and a group comprised of organized labor, public agencies, private companies and academics, Sellen Sustainability created a comprehensive training program and videos funded by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.

This what Yancey Wright, Director of Sellen Sustainability had to say about the experience of working with studio/216.  ”It was a real pleasure working with studio/216 on this project, they helped us quickly tell the story of green building safety through a series of short interviews and project footage. I appreciate their creative approach and style and always know I can depend on them to deliver a fantastic product.”

Thanks to the Sellen team, Amy Enser (Creative Director) Brian Liepe (DP) for all the work they did to help this project come together so easily.

American Life’s immigrant investors to back latest Stadium Place project with $300M

American Life and Daniels Real Estate are teaming up to develop the land north of Century link field.  studio/216 has been working with Daniels Real Estate and ZGF on visualizing this project for several years and we are excited to see the project moving forward.  If you head out to the site now you can see the beginnings of construction on Phase 1.  Last July we interviewed a series of stakeholders about the project and its future impact on the area.  You can view the video here.  We came away pretty inspired by the potential for a project like this in the downtown to bring much needed residents that can transform the day and night life in this community.  You can read more about the project in this Puget Sound Business Journal article.  Click here to read more
